Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup white wine optional
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice optional

Instructions

Prepare the Shrimp:

  • Rinse and pat dry the shrimp. Season with salt and pepper.

Sauté Garlic:

  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Deglaze the Pan:

  • Pour in the white wine (if using) and let it reduce by half.

Make the Cream Sauce:

  • Stir in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Add Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Mix well until the cheese is melted and the sauce thickens.

Cook the Shrimp:

  • Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.

Finish the Dish:

  • Stir in fresh parsley and lemon juice (if using). Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

Serve:

  • Serve the creamy garlic shrimp over pasta, rice, or your favorite side dish.

Notes

  • From my kitchen tests, using fresh garlic cloves makes a noticeable difference in the depth of flavor in the creamy garlic sauce.
  • A chef's secret: Adding a splash of white wine not only deglazes the pan but also infuses the sauce with a subtle acidity that balances the richness of the cream.
  • Common mistake to avoid: Overcooking the shrimp can make them rubbery. Cook them just until they turn pink and opaque for the best texture.
  • Key tip: For a lighter version of this dish, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or Greek yogurt. This reduces the fat content while still maintaining creaminess.
  • Storage solution: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Gently reheat on low heat, adding a splash of broth or milk to restore the sauce's consistency.
  • Flavor pairing idea: Serve this creamy garlic shrimp with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to add a bright, tangy contrast to the rich sauce.
  • Presentation idea: Garnish the dish with freshly chopped parsley or a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese to enhance both the flavor and visual appeal.
